Is it okay to take mood stabilzers with antideppressants?
Posted by: Alan in Manic Depression, tags: antideppressants, Mood, Okay.., stabilzers, Take
I take 120mg cymbalta for my bipolar manic depression but it only helps the depression but not my mood swings so i was wondering is it ok to use a mood stabilzer with cymbalta?

cymbalta is a SNRI antidepressant.
it’s used for depression and generalized anxiety disorder, but it’s not for bipolar.
cymbalta can’t be used with MAOI antidepressants or Thioridazine [antipsychotic].
it can cause manic symptoms like: insomnia, agitation, anxiety and even hypomanic episodes.
bipolar is medicated with mood stabalisers like: lithium, Carbamazepine, Lamotrigine, sodium valproate.
sometimes pantipsychotics are used instead of mood stabilisers like: olanzapine, quetiapine.
agitation in acute manic episodes can be treated with antipyschotics like: quetiapine, olanzapine, chlorpromazine.
Rapid cycling can be induced or made worse by antidepressants when they are used on there own.
most bipolars’ are treated with mood stabalisers and an antidepressant.
you should def’ see your doctor and tell him your problem.
he can change your med’s and it should help you.
i hope this helped abit.

You must talk with your Doctor. There may be a reason you are on Cymbalta.
