Can you have bipolar I with manic tendencies if you never experience the other pole (depression)? Is that possible and if it is then why is it called bipolar if all you have is mania?

It’s quite possible to have bipolar but mostly manic episodes. I believe you’re aware that people have severe depressive episdoes with hypomanic episodes. So, reverse that, severe manic episodes with mild depressive (sometimes just a “normal” mood). It’s still considered bipolar because you are not manic all the time. Your mood fluctuates between poles of a different nature. Manic and normal. While traditional bipolar is manic and depressive, depressive and hypomanic, there is another bipolar, highly disputed which appear Major Depressive Disorder in nature. A person has depressive episodes with normal episdoes – but they become manic/hypomanic when given an antidepressant. Some psychiatrists diagree that this is a form of bipolar, and rather say that some people with depression just experience it as a “side effect” instead of being bipolar with a “hidden manic pole”.

well bipolar I is about mostly being manic.
SOMETIMES it can involve depression, but it’s not
    always the case.
bipolar II/hypomania is more with both manic and depression issues
but then there is like…39 other categories of BPD…

I just finish researching bipolar disorder for a class writting assignment. And I found out that there is a condition related to being bipolar. It is just called Manic, you have just manic episodes and not the depression. You can look into it to see if you think that its something you/someone else have.
