If you are still on the medication and you feel great it could be a result of the medication. You shouldn’t stop without talking to your doctor!

  2. Khrys says:

The reason you’re feeling great is because the medication is working. Please, for your own sake and for the sake of those around you, stay on the medication. If it’s having unpleasant side effects, talk to your doctor about switching to another medication, but don’t just stop taking this one, or you’ll end up M/D again.
The medication is what’s making you feel great, stopping it will just cause the same problems again.

I’ve been where you are about 4 times (I have bipolar disorder). The reason you feel better is because of the medication. If you stop taking the medications you will go back to how you were before the meds. Think back about how that was and I’m sure you will make the right choice.
I know it’s hard to think about having to take meds for a mental condition for the rest of your life, but if you had diabetes would you stop taking your meds when your sugar levels are good – NO!
Treat bipolar disorder (manic depression) as an illness and take the necessary steps to make sure it doesn’t act up.

If you decide to stop taking the meds, you need to ramp down slowly. People who go cold turkey often become suicidal. I have also heard of some people having permanent personality changes after stopping all at once. I think if you feel it is time to get off of the meds, then go for it, BUT do it the right way. Work with whoever has prescribed them, and if that person is not all for getting you off, then it might be time to shop around for another provider.

  5. MYSELF says:

NO NO NO NO NO! Don’t do it. If you’re thinking about going off of them, talk to your doctor about it. They will slowly wean you off of it- they will lower your dosage by just a fraction every few weeks, but do NOT do it yourself, trust me.
I’ve been on anti-depressants for 6 years now, and I have this same thought process- “I feel great, I don’t need these anymore”, so I stop taking them. Stopping all together not only will screw with your brain and your emotions, but depending on what you’re on, you can have serious physical withdrawls.

i would not stop cold turkey, take something natural which helps for manic depression while gradually decreasing the medication
Omega 3 fish oil or flax oil is known to help with manic depression
read success stories on http://www.curezone.com or type in bipolar or manic depression
take care , also get plenty of sleep, eat healthy too

Don’t stop. We all need medicines for something in this life. Hell, I take an injection every single day to keep walking! I have MS. I consider myself a lucky person to have the medicine. Who knows where I’d be without it. There aren’t any meds for so many illnesses. We are lucky to have treatment. Take your meds and get on with life. We only get one life. Make it a good one. Swallowing a pill is not the worst thing in the world. Stay on your meds and see your doc. We’re all pulling for each other! So take your meds so you can be there for us too!

  8. Nelson says:

No, you are feeling good because it is working. Slowly cut back on your dose, if you stop all together you will get sick. Its balancing the chemicals in your brain to make you feel better, if you stop all together there is a huge chance you will end up with more depression.

  9. Wendy b says:

abolutely not, do you want to go back where you were when you were put on it ? Did you know that 60% of manic depressants/bipolars commit suicide ? If you want to stop the meds, work with your dr. and try to wean off. Please do not do it without your dr. please !!

  10. Anonymous says:

You probably already know that this is pretty typical for people with bipolar. You are feeling great because you HAVE been taking your meds. Don’t stop. At least talk to your doc.

  11. ad-ventu says:

obviously not, you feel better because of the medication. Read “An Unquiet Mind” to get perspective.

  12. Large Taco says:

Shiiiit hell no!! Why do you think you’ve been feeling better?? You need to talk to your doctor about this. People with manic depression make this mistake a lot – they start feeling better so they stop medication. Talk to your doc first.

  13. Charles Taze R says:

no, that’s the point. people take their meds ’til they start feeling better and stop. if they stop they go back into their cycles.
    so, no it’s not ok

  14. Tanya S says:

the mania is worth the depression

  16. Aubrey says:
