i don’t know of any family history of manic depression and i think i get highs with my downs but i don’t know if its connected or not…if anyone has an idea it will be really helpful

    We can’t say for sure whether you have manic depression or just depression. Your best bet would be to see a psychiatrist for a professional diagnosis. Good Luck and take care of yourself.

    See a doctor. It is crucial to be diagnosed correctly. With the limited information that you have given it is not possible to think of a possible diagnosis. Mood swings are possibly connected and need to explored further. Not having a family history is important, however not crucial for a diagnosis.

    It’s more likely to be normal mood swings, manic depressives have feelings of extreme happiness that are “manic” and feelings of despair

    Emotional
    feelings of unhappiness that don’t go away
    feeling that you want to burst into tears for no reason
    losing interest in things
    being unable to enjoy things
    feeling restless and agitated
    losing self-confidence
    feeling useless, inadequate and hopeless
    feeling more irritable than usual
    thinking of suicide
    Thinking
    can’t think positively or hopefully
    finding it hard to make even simple decisions
    difficulty in concentrating
    Physical
    losing appetite and weight
    difficulty in getting to sleep
    waking earlier than usual
    feeling utterly tired
    constipation
    going off sex
    Behaviour
    difficulty in starting or completing things – even everyday chores
    crying a lot – or feeling like you want to cry, but not being able to
    avoiding contact with other people
    maybe see your doctor if you think you have them.
