One of the primary characteristics of a manic episode is the pursuit of risky actions without regard for the consequences. Additionally, the symptom of feeling invincible is very prominent during a manic episode. Put these two together and you get someone who, for example, may drive their car at 120mph on the highway or take an extreme amount of drugs. A very typical characteristic is the practice of anonymous and unsafe sex on a large scale. This obviously has dangerous health implications.
Having said all that, not everyone experiencing a severe manic episode is dangerous. Some may just spend large amounts of money and spend all night listening to music. You certainly cannot generalize the dangerous behavior to all those with severe bipolar.

Umm it depends if they get dangerous tendencies.
they certainly are a danger to themselves because they will engage in extremely risky behaviors.
but i do know my friend hears voices that tell him to kill people.
the reason is because some people not all , get psychosis when they have a really bad episode

When they are manic they are in a different state of mind. Just like for anyone wanting to feel high or drunk they turn to alcohol or drugs. To feel some high. Well manic people could at times be too hyped up in there own mind. They could be hyper, angry, or paranoid when there manic.
