How Can One Tell For Sure Whether Someone Suffers From Manic Depression?

My father is more or less an alcoholic. However, he seems to suffer from wide mood swings and changing behaviour. I cannot tell if this is related to his alcohol addiction or some psychological condition. He would not go to see any professional so I have to work this out myself. He also had a tough childhood. He seems to be very sensitive, almost unreasonably getting angry for petty things. What is frightening is that sometimes my behaviour resembles his and I can get easily upset too, however, I learned to control during the years. It is another question, still, it puzzles me whether I inherited anything genetically or am simply influenced by his ‘example’ in my childhood.
Professionally trained people to respond, please.

Only a doctor that you can see can tell you anything and as you state professional people to respond you need to seek them in the flesh as qualifications on here cannot be verified!
Anything which is given on here will still have to be confirmed by a doctor to get treatment so to that end all answers will be pointless to you!

There are various symptoms and only a doctor, preferably a psychiatrist can diagnose bipolar, however it is likely that his mood swings are due to his alcohol consumption. You could have inherited characteristics from him, i’m sure there are some and some characteristics will be as a result of your environment, it’s not really one or the other. If your father won’t seek help then it may be a good idea for you to seek help for yourself to help you deal with your own feelings.

Your dad might be having other ‘neurotic’ disorder…
…..The similarity of your and your dad’s behaviour is probably due to his influence on you……..You should ask him to consult a clinical psychologist at the earliest…
