Question by encantasia: How common is it that a Doctor might misdiagnose a patient with manic depression with ADD instead?
I’m just wondering if this is a common mistake on the parts of doctors, since the two disorders share a few symptoms. And the effects on a manic depressive who’s been taking adderall for years instead of proper antidepressants. Any insight?

Question by NascarFan: What are common treatments for postpartum depression?
Since my wife just miscarried a week and a half ago, I know that it is too soon to say it’s postpartum depression, but I thought maybe if I could get her treatment like antidepressants it might help bring her beautiful smile back. I know I sound selfish, but I have been walking on egg shells since this happened. She’s not that same vibrant woman I married. I truly miss her. That’s why I’m asking so many questions.

You sound like a very caring husband. I understand that this must be hard. Have her see the doctor, they will be able to get her help.

my exboyfriend of 2 years was very very depressed, he was put on antidpressants and now feels like there’s this great big world out there..i feel that there is a good chance he is bipolar and was misdiagnosed as just being depressed…my dad is bipolar and he and my ex have very similar personality qualities and i have also heard that when misdiagnosed for depression, upon taking antidepressants it can switch you from depression to you’re manic state if you are bipolar… before my ex and i broke up he tried convincing me that i was depressed..when really, i’m not at all..i’ve seen a physciatrist b/c of a court order from my parents divorce and they have told me i have no mental illnesses and that i am a very happy person..which i am, very much so…why would my ex try to tell me otherwise?

I actually have anxiety so I’m like psyching myself up for having it I think… That could be a problem. I don’t want to deal with really bad anxiety issues with a new born baby. Any suggestions??

I know someone who is suffering from depression. And I was wondering if depressed people actually look different (physically) from a person who is not depressed? And what are some common symptoms?
