Question by hyperspud182: Whats the procedure for a diagnosis of manic depression?
Im interested in knowing because my fiance who currently suffers depression and on anti depressants is convinced ( as well as me) that he could be suffering from bipolar disorder but how do we go about explaining this to the GP? (we dont want to ‘tell’ the doctor)

There is no other way than being honest with your MD, and they can run tests and compare symptoms to see if he reall does, in fact suffer from Bipolar disease. Good luck.

Female relative of mine is showing terrrible mood swings of manic depression (possibly bipolar disorder), making life of her husband and her inlaws miserable. All kind of persuasion fails even through her parents. What can be the way out for her husband?

My classmate Denise and I were talking yesterday. She told me about her mother’s current battle with depression. She made it sound so serious and so hard to deal with that I got really scared. I feel sorry for her mom. Can somebody tell me how a person becomes depressed? I just want to know the things I should avoid. Thanks.
