Manic Depression is a song written and recorded by Jimi Hendrix and first released in 1967 on the Are You Experienced album. The songs name is an old name for Bipolar Disorder and Hendrix wrote the song one day after one of his managers told him “during a live interview in London” that Jimi sounded like a manic depressive. At Winterland in 1968, Jimi explains to the crowd: “I’d like to do a frustrating type of song for you, it’s called Manic Depression, a story about a guy wishing he could make love to music, instead of the same old everyday woman.” Are You Experienced is the debut album by English/American rock band The Jimi Hendrix Experience. Released in 1967, it was the first LP for Track Records. The album highlighted Jimi Hendrix’s R&B-based, psychedelic, distortion- and feedback-laden electric guitar playing, and launched him as a major new international star. In 2005 Are You Experienced was selected for permanent preservation in the National Recording Registry at the Library of Congress in the United States. The instrumental “Manic Depression” by the wonderful and talented Emilie Autumn. Since instrumentals obviously have no lyrics, and because it is against my principles to simply create a slideshow, I’ve been playing around with what kind of video I want to accompany the instrumentals. Let me know what you think. This song can be found on the “Laced/Unlaced” album. Find EA’s site at: www.emilieautumn.com Note: I have recently been accused of Photoshopping Emilie’s eyes to make them darker and hence more “goth-looking”… I did nothing of the sort. Yes, I Photoshop the backgrounds, but I have hardly EVER touched the actual images of Emilie aside from cutting around the background and sometimes adjusting contrast a little here and there to make the image blend with the background more. I do NOT want to make EA look more “goth”, she’s beautiful the way she is. Even if you don’t care to believe me… any of you should always remember that the EA videos I make are presented through my interpretation of them. I don’t think or even pretend to know exactly everything Emilie feels in her songs, but her songs make ME feel things, and I have the right to interpret music for myself and decide what it means to me, just as everybody else does.

Bipolar disorder, also known as manic-depressive illness typically develops in late adolescence or early adulthood. However, some people have their first symptoms during childhood, and some develop them late in life.

My parents said they started to notice the signs and symptoms in me since I was a teenager, but I wasn’t diagnosed until I was 21.
