Question by mmo: Is there a way to deal with postpartum depression without taking meds?
I had my baby three weeks ago. He is my first baby. I was the happiest mom ever, even my doctors and friends were shocked that I wasn’t suffering from postpartum.

Everything has gone downhill. I’m sad and all my friends have noticed also.

My doctor is going to prescibe me anitdepressiant pills I don’t want to take those meds because I think they cause more harm than good. Is there anything I can do that will help me get over this without meds?

If you go into medication therapy with that attitude, then no, they won’t work. Just try it for a couple of months, PLEEEZE? Talk therapy helps, but all it does is give you an outlet for your depression, it doesn’t cure it.

What do you think? Answer below!

Question by Smart @ss: How to handle manic depression without meds or therapy?
Is this a bad idea?
I haven’t found meds that work for me yet, and it’s getting very tiring I kinda gave up on them.
The meds DON’T make me feel better…or worse. I am like a zombie, with no feelings at all. This is why I have chosen not to take them.

I think your doctor know best of this one. You may need medication. Why suffer if a tablet makes you feel better.

I had my baby 4 months ago. I am suffering from postpartum depression. I have a family history of depression (my mother grandmas and two sisters are on Zoloft). My midwife’s office is closed right now or I would be calling them. I will call them later but was wondering what you think. Anti-depressants have a history of sucidal thoughts in teens and elderly. I am only 20 yrs. Am I too young to take meds for my depression?

I’m dealing with postpartum depression and I dont want to take meds, because the side effects on a lot of them seem worse than the symptoms I have now. What can I do to relieve this? I have family and friends nearby, but its hard for me to get over my anxeity in asking for help, as they say, “no one likes a downer.” What can help?
