Question by idhacs64: Is clinical depression, moderatley severe depression and manic depression the same thing?
I was diagnosed by a doctor with moderately severe depression recently. I’m confused, is this the same as the others i’ve mentioned? If not, what are the differences?

Clinical depression is a very extreme form. Moderately severe is less extreme than clinical and manic depression (otherwise known as bi-polar disorder) is ranging from extremely happy emotions to extremely depressed emotion. They are all different.

Question by Ash: What can you do for a person with severe Manic Depression?
I’m writing this story. The main character is 18, a high school senior. He’s suffered from manic episodes since he was 14. He goes to a normal school, and on occasion he has an episode. But my question is, if he does have an episode, does he take some sort of medication, and does he go to his doctor? And what can others do to help him?

My step-daughter is going through the worst postpartum depression I’ve ever encountered. This is her second child and she reacted about the same with her first, but I thought she would be able to recognize her symptoms and actions this time and handle it a little better.
She actually has thoughts of harming her and the baby. She says she can’t even stand to look at him. The doctor has her on sedatives and I realize she needs more help than what her physician is doing for her. She is in Washington State and her father and I are in Florida. We have talked to her mother about it, who does live close to her, but her boyfriend is feeling neglected and thinking she is spending too much time with her. Please do not get into issues and tell me how wrong her mom’s boyfriend is. Believe me, we know all this and would agree with you. Her father and I have no clue what to do. We can’t just up and fly there, there is no possible means of doing so. What can we do?
We feel are hands are tied!

How does the great depression and today’s recession compare? I know the Great depression was more severe so don’t tell me that, I just want to know statistics like gdp and stock market values, then and now.

It appears to me that the two diagnoses are very similar..could it be that severe depression with psychotic episodes is a more conservative diagnisis than schizophrenia? Maybe the first step of diagnosis for schizophrenia? Insight please, and try to explain your answers as in depth as possible.
